This is the FAQ from Version 1.0.9
Q. It just sits there. What does it do?
A. Here’s a possible usage scenario:
1. Hit the green GPS button
2. When GPS is acquired, it turns red
3. Hit the green record button
4. It turns into a red stop button
5. Get off your butt and ride (or run, drive,..)
a. Real-time statistics displayed
b. Locations collected in the database
c. Zoom, reposition map as you want
d. Track continuously updated on map
6. Stop riding (or whatever)
7. Hit the red stop button
8. Track is stored in database
9. Export track to KML and post to Google Earth
Q. What does Reset do?
A. Removes saved tracks from the map
Resets the statistics back to zero
Use to reset time and distance when not recording
Q. Where do the exported tracks get written?
A. In /sdcard/ridetrac/<date and time>.<gpx, kml, or csv>
Q. What can I do with an exported track?
A. GPX, KML, and CSV are standard formats
1. GPX is a standard GPS Exchange Format
a. Most training packages can import this
b. Any GPS-aware program should be able to import this
2. KML is the format used for Google Earth
a. Install Google Earth on your desktop machine
b. Export a track as KML and copy to your computer
c. Double-click the kml file
d. Your ride will be displayed on the globe
3. CSV (comma separated value) is the standard for spreadsheet imports
a. Use the Settings->Custom Exports page to define and save customized CSVs
b. Once saved, custom exports will be selectable just like GPX or KML
c. Export a track in a custom csv and copy to your computer
d. Import the track data into your favorite spreadsheet
Q. What does database backup and restore do?
A. Backup copies database to /sdcard/ridetrac/backupTracks.db. Restore copies backupTracks.db over your current database.
Q. How do I change the track drawing mode?
A. Long press on the statistics view to select one of the drawing modes. You can modify the ranges and colors for the different modes in Settings->Preferences.
Q. What does database backup and restore do?
A. Backup copies database to /sdcard/ridetrac/backupTracks.db. Restore copies backupTracks.db over your current database.
Q. What’s the difference between unfiltered and filtered KML exports?
A. Unfiltered puts every GPS point in the output KML. Filtered removes unnecessary points resulting in a smaller KML file. It may also be less accurate, but better for Google Maps since it has size restrictions on KML.
Q. What’s a marker and what do I do with them?
A. Markers allow you to record information about a particular location.
- RideTrac provides the location and time that you record the marker.
- You can provide a title, description, and optionally an image.
- Markers can be displayed on the map.
- Markers collected during a recorded track will be exported with the track in KML.
- Markers can be edited and deleted after capture.
- Images captured with markers are stored in the Android Image Gallery.
Q. How do I capture a marker?
A. First make sure GPS is on.
1. Press the Menu button then select Markers.. then Create Marker.
a. Note: GPS must be locked on to a location to create a marker
2. Enter a title and description
3. To add an image, click the camera icon, take a picture with the camera and select OK.
a. To view your image in the Android Gallery, click the image on the edit window
b. If you want to change the image, just click the camera icon again and take another.
4. If you are happy with the marker select OK, if not select Cancel.
Q. Are there any display options for markers?
A. Yes. Long press on the statistics window to get to the Display Options menu.
1. Display of ALL markers is ON by default
2. Use the Select Marker Drawing Mode dialog to change the mode to:
a. OFF - no markers will be displayed on the map
b. TRACK ONLY - only markers that were captured during recording of the currently loaded track will be displayed.
Q. How do I edit a marker once its created?
A. There are two ways to get to the marker Edit screen:
1. Press the Menu button, then select Markers.. then View/Edit/Delete Marker and select the Marker you want to edit
2. When markers are displayed on the map, click the displayed marker
a. A small window will appear with a small thumbnail of the image (if you took one) and the title and date
b. Click on the thumbnail image to jump to the edit page for that marker.
c. Clicking the X button on the top right will dismiss the window.
Q. How do I delete a marker once I’ve made one?
A. First get to the edit window (see above) and select the Delete button. This will remove it from the database and delete the image.
