RideTrac 1.0.1 Update Released

January 24th, 2009

I received lots of good feedback on the initial release of RideTrac.  The most popular complaint was that the buttons are too small.  Another popular suggestion was to allow for exporting to KML as well as GPX.

Version 1.0.1 addresses these issues and more:

  • 30% larger icon buttons for all those fat fingers out there
  • Option to export to KML (for use in Google Earth) as well as GPX
  • Trackball now zooms the map
  • FAQ added to explain the basics of RideTrac
  • Restructured option menu to hopefully organize it a bit better

Get RideTrac and get riding!

Hello, I like this application very much, but I have a problem exporting tracks. I load a track and then try to export this track, I receive a message saying “Failed to export. Make sure sdcard is writable”.

I’ve looked in the sdcard and I see a directory named ridetrack, but inside there is only a “backupTracks.db” file, from a previous backup.

All the directories in the sd are 077 and the files are 066, and the uid and group are 1000:1000. Is this normal?

    Thank you :)

Do you have the sdcard mounted on your computer at the time you are doing the export? The way Android works is if the sdcard is mounted as a drive on an external computer, then it becomes unwritable for any Android applications. This is unfortunate, but it is part of the design of Android (a security feature I guess). If this is the case, then unmount the sdcard from the computer *AND* remove the USB cable from the G1. (I have found that I need to do both of these things to make the sdcard appear writable, and during development of RideTrac I had to do this many many times.)

If this doesn’t solve your problem let me know.

I have the same problem as described in the first comment and I do not have mounted the sd card on any other computer or having a cable attached. I can export the database (the file is present in the ridetrack folder) but when trying to export the track I get also the message “Failed…”.

I have this problem always, with or without the usb cable attached.

    Thank you.

Thanks to some help from guido I now understand the nature of this problem. It is related to the local time zone formatting for European phones. The code is fine for US style time zone formatting, but not for some others. When it tries the program to export a track it uses the date of the ride as the name of the exported file. For certain kinds of date formatting this generates an error. RideTrac as I originally coded it assumed the problem was an off-line sdcard. I now see this was a bad assumption.

I am working on a fix right now. Hopefully we will have an update this weekend which corrects this problem as well as the speed problem reported on the other post and a few new features that have been requested.
